Wishing you a warm and safe Thanksgiving holiday

Dear MFLCs,

As we enter the holiday season, the services and support you provide through the MFLC Program for our nation’s military men and women becomes even more important. Thank you for all you do to support today’s military service members and their families.

Remembering Gary Lee Newman, MFLC CYB Supervisor

Gary Newman joined the MFLC Program as a CYB Supervisor in 2008 during the rapid expansion of the Child and Youth Behavioral Program and worked with the MFLC Program through the end of contract I in 2012. He was well respected by both his team of MFLCs and his co-workers internally.  After battling dementia for six years, Gary passed on June 2nd at the age of 58. He will be greatly missed. Gary’s obituary is directly below.

Gary Lee Newman, born September 17, 1959 and peacefully died June 2, 2018. He was 58 years old.

Gary was born in El Campo, TX to his surviving parents Milton and Yvonne Newman. He was later raised in Victoria, TX and graduated from Victoria High School. He went on to earn his BA and MA degrees from Oral Roberta University in Tulsa, OK. Gary served in Pastoral Ministry for over 30 years and was a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing as a Family Therapist.

Gary is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brenda (Bostrom) Newman, his three children, Jessica, Randy and Niki and two grandchildren. Also, his sister Velvet (Newman) Coberley and her family.

A memorial service will be held in Victoria, TX at the First Assembly of God Church, Saturday, June 9th at 4pm.

There will be a second memorial service held in Bixby, OK at New Beginnings Church, Saturday, June 16th at 4pm.

Due to Gary’s retirement funds being exhausted on his caregiving needs during his six year journey with dementia, as well as Brenda being 53 and too young to draw on his social security benefits, we ask that in lieu of flowers, you consider a memorial contribution to give Brenda some recovery time before needing to address how she will provide for herself and her future.
